Throughout my life I have been exposed to many different types of plants that look like marijuanas. Some of these plants include Hibiscus cannabinus, Cassava, Okra, Kenaf, and Southern marigold. I find these plants to be very interesting and have learned a lot from them. I hope that I can continue to learn about more plants that look like marijuanas in the future.
Cassava
Those of us who are savvy know that Cassava and Castor-Bean belong to the same Euphorbiaceae family, but they aren’t the same. The plant is actually a woody shrub native to South America, but is grown as an annual in the US. Its tubers are packed with carbohydrates, but are transformed into tapioca when boiled. The root also serves as a food source for over 500 million people. The tubers are best grown in a tropical climate, in well-draining soil. The cassava is also a medicinal plant, with many of its beneficial properties being attributed to the starch it contains.
Amongst its many uses, the medicinal plant’s most prized possession is its unique roots. If eaten raw, they are not only poisonous, but also contain a form of hydrocyanic acid. These roots are used in industrial processing to create compounds used in a variety of industrial products.
Hibiscus Cannabinus
Several plants that look like marijuana can be found in many countries. These plants are illegal to grow in some states. Some varieties are even poisonous to humans. It is important to know how to distinguish them from marijuana.

Okra

African Rosemallow
Compared to a red bud, the African rosemallow is a greenhorn. It makes an interesting addition to the garden as it can thrive in hot tropical weather. It can grow to heights of 70 to 94 inches, depending on conditions. It also makes for a great indoor plant. The most interesting part is that its leaves are edible, if you are into that sort of thing. The young, tender leaves can be used like spinach and the seed pods can be incorporated into Cajun and African cuisine.
Hibiscus acetosella has many worthy claims to fame, but its true value is derived from its versatility. It can be grown in cold climates as an annual plant.
