NEROLIDOL is an essential oil that contains high levels of terpenes, which provide various effects. It is considered to be an anti-inflammatory and anti-nociceptive agent. It also acts as a repellent for insects such as the maize weevil. In addition, it has skin penetration enhancement properties.

Anti-Nociceptive

NEROLIDOL TERPENE has anti-nociceptive and anti-inflammatory properties. This terpene is found in several plants and is widely used in the cosmetic industry. Nerolidol also exhibits anti-fungal and antimalarial properties. It is often used in perfumes and in topical applications. The aroma is characteristically woody and citrusy, with hints of rose, apple, and citrus.

This terpene is considered to be safe for consumption by the FDA. It is a pale yellow sesquiterpene alkene alcohol. It has a high concentration of nerolidol, as well as cis-nerolidol and trans-nerolidol. It is available from Sigma-Aldrich.

The anti-nociceptive properties of nerolidol are believed to be related to the effects of GABAergic system. This system is a part of the nervous system that controls behavior and emotion. Nerolidol has been shown to inhibit IL-1b production in LPS-stimulated macrophages. It has also been shown to reduce carrageenan-induced paw edema.

In addition to its anti-nociceptive properties, nerolidol has antioxidant properties. It is also believed to be an anti-cancer agent.

Anti-Inflammatory

Various studies have been conducted on nerolidol for its anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer activities. It is a terpene that is found in tea, oolong tea, lemongrass, jasmine, and neroli essential oils. It is also a minor terpene in cannabis. There are four isomeric forms of nerolidol. It has a double bond at the C-6 position. The terpene is highly ranked for its antioxidant activity, as well as its ability to inhibit the growth of oxidized foes.

Nerolidol has shown some anti-inflammatory effects in an animal model of acute lung injury (ALI). In ALI, the inflammatory response is rapid and the inflammatory infiltration is high. The infiltration of inflammatory cells is greater during the first 24 hours. After three days, the infiltration tends to decrease. ALI can be triggered by pneumonia, sepsis, and lipopolysaccharide. It is believed that nerolidol may have anti-inflammatory effects in the lungs during LPS-induced ALI.

The anti-inflammatory effect of nerolidol in an animal model of arthritis was assessed in a neutrophil migration assay. Nerolidol loaded nanoparticles were used to assess neutrophil migration into the joint cavity.

Skin Penetration Enhancer

Several studies have investigated the skin penetration enhancer properties of terpenes. These terpenes are present in the essential oils of plants and are used in a variety of cosmetic products. They improve the permeation of hydrophilic drugs and also enhance the electrical properties of the body tissue.

Some studies have used hairless mice as a model of human skin. This has been shown to be a good model for skin permeation. These studies have compared the effects of various terpenes on a PG solution. The terpenes used in these studies had molecular weights over 150, a boiling point over 170 degC, and clog P below 3.3.

These studies used a variety of methods to detect the molecular changes that occurred. One method was the use of FTIR to detect conformational changes. Another method was the use of scintillation counting. Another method used in this study was the use of ATR-FTIR to determine the CH2 stretching frequencies.

These studies have revealed the high lipophilicity of terpenes. The cyclic terpene D-LM has a high lipophilicity and a low hydrophilicity. It also has a double bond which increases its hydrophobicity.

Repellence Activity Against Maize Weevil

Historically, terpenes were found in cosmetics and skincare products, but there is an increasing interest in its potential for transdermal delivery of medications. Recently, scientists have studied terpenes for their insecticidal activity.

Terpenes can act as fumigants, as well as having insecticidal activities. They interact with water molecules on the respiratory systems of insects. They also affect the epicuticular waxes of insects. In addition, terpenes are known to have calming effects. Terpenes are also being evaluated for their ability to penetrate skin.

In the study, the authors evaluated terpene compounds for insecticidal activities against three different insects. These insects are important agricultural pests. These include the American cockroach, the rice weevil, and the buckwheevil. The three species are commonly found in grain storage facilities. The infestation of these pests can cause the entire grain to be destroyed.

The insecticidal activity of terpene compounds was evaluated using quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) analysis. This technique is a mathematical expression that correlates the chemical structure of a compound with well-known processes.
